“The Diocese of Crookston is 100 years old! Join us as we celebrate our rich past and our promising future. As shepherd of the Church of Crookston, I will be celebrating the sacraments with you throughout the diocese, throughout the year. I'm looking forward to seeing you and sharing your 'joys and hopes.'
HISTORY
The Diocese of Crookston was established December 31, 1909, from the western half of the Diocese of Duluth, Minnesota. It comprises 17,210 square miles of northwestern Minnesota, the four-
teen counties of Kittson, Roseau, Lake of the Woods, Marshall, Polk, Red Lake, Pennington, Clearwater, Beltrami, Norman, Mahnomen, Hubbard, Clay and Becker. Faced with an influx of immigrants, the first bishop, Timothy Corbett, constructed more than fifty churches and twelve schools in twenty-eight years. He was followed by Bishops John H. Peshges, Francis J. Schenk, Laurence A. Glenn, Kenneth J. Povish, Victor Balke and Michael J. Hoeppner.
