The Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) is the United States Conference of Catholic Bishop's (USCCB) anti-poverty campaign. Since its foundation in 1969, the Diocese of Crookston has proactively sought to support its mission. CCHD works to break the cycle of poverty by helping low-income people participate in decisions that affect their lives, families and communities. CCHD has a complementary mission of educating on poverty and its causes through educational opportunities and grant programs. The strategy of education for justice and helping people who are poor speak and act themselves that CCHD puts into action reflects the mandate of the Scriptures and the principles of Catholic social teaching

The Annual National Collection is the primary source of funding for CCHD's anti-poverty educational programs and grants. In November of each year, Catholic parishes across the United States take up a second collection for CCHD. Of the funds collected in the Diocese of Crookston, twenty-five percent becomes available for distribution to projects within the diocese through the Diocese of Crookston's CCHD Local Grant which is available every two years.

The other seventy-five percent of the funds are forwarded to the national CCHD office for investment in projects around the country, including projects in the Diocese of Crookston which live Catholic social teaching and address the root causes of poverty and provide lasting solutions for the future. The 2016 national collection took place in the Diocese of Crookston on November 18-19. Thank you for your participation in this collection: Your generous support will give those in poverty the support they need to make lasting changes.

The Diocese of Crookston joins CCHD, by helping the poor to participate in decisions and actions that affect their lives, specifically by empowering the poor to move beyond poverty, while educating all people about the Catholic Church's commitment to the right to life, justice for all and concern for the poor by providing educational and grant  opportunities to parishes, schools and non-profit organizations located in the Diocese of Crookston.

The Office of the New Evangelization and Justice promotes the Catholic Campaign for Human Development with the assistance of the "CCHD & CRS Diocesan Committee" and assists parishes, schools and individuals with participation in CCHD programs and the application process for both local and national grants. The Diocesan Director of CCHD with the assistance of the "CCHD & CRS Diocesan Committee" evaluates projects of parishes, schools, and local non-profit organizations which have applied for local and national grants and, if appropriate, recommends them to the Bishop of Crookston. The Diocese of Crookston's "CCHD & CRS Diocesan Committee" functions in accord with the following  pdf Bylaws (128 KB) .
